Somalia receives European Union delegation at Mogadishu Port to discuss port development and maritime security

The State Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mohamed AbdulThe State Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mohamed Abdulkadir, today welcomed a delegation from the European Union at the Port of Mogadishu. The delegation was led by the European Union Ambassador to Somalia, Ms. Francesca Di Mauro.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Managers of the Port of Mogadishu, Dr. Ali Haji and Abdullahi Karshe. Discussions focused on the development of Somali ports, the role of the European Union in supporting the government’s plans to modernize and expand Mogadishu Port, as well as cooperation on maritime safety and security.

Both sides highlighted the strategic importance of Mogadishu Port as a key economic gateway for Somalia and discussed opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, infrastructure capacity, and safety standards in line with international best practices.

Following the meeting, the EU delegation conducted an inspection tour of various sections of Mogadishu Port, where they observed ongoing large-scale operations and development activities taking place at the capital’s main port.
