Radio Dalsan launched in Mogadishu in April 2012 with a single FM transmitter and a small team of journalists. More than a decade later, it's grown into something we didn't fully plan for: Somalia's largest independent media group.

We broadcast across five regions Mogadishu on 91.5 MHz, Baidoa, Dhusamareb, and Jowhar all on 100.1 and reach listeners well beyond those signal ranges via our website, YouTube channel, and social platforms.

We're not a state broadcaster, not a party outlet, and not funded by any government. We cover the news as we find it.

The newsroom produces and broadcasts around 18 hours of programming per day hard news, documentary features, political talk, religious programming, and entertainment.

Our flagship program, Awoodda 5-aad The Fifth Estate has interviewed Somalia's president, prime ministers, regional leaders, and figures most Somali broadcasters will not touch.

We share content with VOA Somali and BBC Somali, and carry programming from United Nations agencies operating in Somalia.

Bilan Media

Somalia's first all-women newsroom.

In 2022, we did something that hadn't been done before in Somalia: we opened the country's first all-women newsroom. Bilan Media based inside Dalsan's offices was created with support from UNDP.

Bilan's reporters have produced investigative journalism cited by the BBC, The Guardian, and El País. They cover stories that were not getting covered: women's political participation, gender-based violence, and the everyday realities of Somali women.

"We have had pressure applied. We have published anyway."

Dalsan Media Group is privately owned. We have no government shareholders, no political party affiliation, and no agreement formal or informal that requires us to soften, delay, or kill a story. In 2025, 41 journalists were arrested, assaulted, or harassed in a single month in Somalia. Several of our reporters have faced intimidation directly. We are still here, still broadcasting.
