Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre officially opened a conference on Monday to identify long-term solutions to Somalia’s displacement problems.

Speaking at the three-day event, Prime Minister Hamza said one approach to addressing the issue of displacement was to eradicate the terrorist group Al-Shabaab, which he blamed for forcibly displacing thousands of families, rendering them homeless and forcing them to become IDPs in major cities.

“It is critical that the factors causing displacement cease, and in light of this, we have determined to undertake an assault against the militant group Al-Shabaab to safeguard the Somali people’s lives, property, and dignity,” Prime Minister Hamza said.

During the event, participants will discuss the best ways to address displacement in Somalia.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Prime Minister Hamza invited attendees to explore ideas and offer concrete proposals.
