The Somali Ministry of Security has issued a press release emphasizing the mandatory acquisition of vehicle identification cards. All government officials and relevant institutions have been instructed to comply with the directive before 5 March 2026.

The Ministry stated that this measure is part of broader efforts to strengthen national security and prevent criminal activities carried out by groups it described as extremists. Government officials at all levels have been directed to obtain the official ID cards to facilitate vehicle monitoring and verification.

The press release also instructed security agencies to work closely with other government departments to accelerate the registration and regulation of official vehicles.

The Ministry confirmed that obtaining a vehicle ID card is a legal requirement for all government-owned vehicles, and security forces are authorized to enforce compliance.

Finally, the Ministry called for cooperation between the public and security agencies to ensure stability and prevent crimes and security threats in the country.
