Somalia’s Minister of Defense, Ahmed Maallin Fiqi, met today at his office with Ali Yassin Gurbe, Director of the TUBSAN National Center, to discuss strengthening collaboration between the Ministry of Defense and TUBSAN.

The meeting focused on enhancing joint efforts to prevent extremist ideologies and raise public awareness about the dangers of violent radicalization. Minister Fiqi emphasized that combating terrorism cannot rely solely on military operations. Instead, a comprehensive approach is necessary, integrating efforts across ideological, financial, media, and community channels to dismantle the foundations that sustain extremist groups.

Both parties agreed to intensify cooperation and implement coordinated strategies to accelerate counter-extremism initiatives, aiming to ensure national security and stability. The discussions underscored the importance of combining government institutions, civil society, and community engagement to address the root causes of radicalization effectively.

This engagement reflects Somalia’s ongoing commitment to a multi-faceted approach to countering violent extremism, prioritizing prevention, awareness, and strategic partnerships alongside security operations.
