The Ministry of Women, Family Affairs, and Human Rights in Jubbaland held a wide-ranging consultative meeting on a proposed law to protect the rights of persons with disabilities. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the protection and promotion of the rights of people with special needs across the region.

The meeting saw active participation from members of the disability community as well as other key stakeholders. Discussions focused on developing a clear legal framework that defines the rights, responsibilities, and services entitled to persons with disabilities.

Miski Yuusuf, the Director General of the Ministry, emphasized the importance of establishing specific legislation for people with disabilities in Jubbaland. She noted that the law would serve as a foundation for ensuring equal access to education, employment opportunities, and services, while preventing all forms of discrimination based on disability.

The ministry highlighted that the proposed legislation aims to foster inclusion and improve the well-being of persons with disabilities, ensuring that they can fully participate in social, educational, and economic activities within Jubbaland.

This initiative reflects Jubbaland’s commitment to advancing human rights and promoting an inclusive society where all citizens, regardless of their abilities, can access opportunities and protection under the law.
