The Somali National Army (SNA), particularly the 9th Battalion of the 60th Division operating in the Bakool region, has carried out a planned security operation in areas under Moorigaabey, which falls within the jurisdiction of Xudur town, the regional capital of Bakool.

According to military officials, the operation was carefully planned and targeted a senior Al-Shabaab commander who had been responsible for harassing and intimidating civilians in the area. The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the Somali security forces to dismantle militant networks and restore lasting security in the region.

During the operation, SNA troops also seized a three-wheeled motorcycle, commonly used by militants for transportation and logistical purposes. The recovered vehicle is believed to have been used by the group to facilitate movement and carry out activities that threatened local communities.

Military commanders stated that the operation underscores the Somali National Army’s continued commitment to protecting civilians, disrupting militant operations, and expanding security gains across Bakool and neighboring regions. They added that similar operations will continue as part of broader efforts to eliminate Al-Shabaab remnants and stabilize liberated areas.

The Somali government has reiterated its resolve to support the armed forces in their counterterrorism operations, while encouraging local communities to cooperate with security agencies by sharing information that can help prevent militant activities and enhance public safety.
