Somalia’s National Drought Relief Finance Committee on Tuesday held an emergency meeting to discuss the worsening drought across the country. The meeting was chaired by Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir, who is also Somalia’s Minister of Education, Culture and Higher Education.
The session was attended by State Minister at the Office of the Prime Minister Hirsi Jama Gani, the Chairman of the National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) Mahmoud Moalim Abdulle, Deputy Director of the National Palace Mohamed Amin Sheikh, senior federal officials, religious leaders, and business representatives. All participants pledged support for drought relief efforts.
During the meeting, officials presented the latest reports on the drought situation, warning that conditions have reached a critical level and are severely affecting livelihoods, people’s lives, and livestock across many regions.
Participants stressed the urgent need to accelerate national relief efforts and strengthen cooperation between government institutions, religious leaders, and the business community to respond quickly and jointly to the crisis and protect vulnerable communities.
SoDMA Chairman Mahmoud Moalim Abdulle said the country is facing a difficult moment, with both human lives and livestock at serious risk. He called on all sectors of society to contribute to emergency relief, particularly through financial support and life-saving assistance.
Chairman of the National Drought Relief Finance Committee Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir reaffirmed the Federal Government of Somalia’s commitment to prioritizing drought response. He said the government will continue national and international efforts to reduce the impact of natural disasters and support affected communities.
