Deputy minister of social development of South Africa visits Somali embassy to strengthen bilateral relations

On Tuesday, Somali Embassy in South Africa received a courtesy visit from the Deputy Minister of Social Development of the Government of South Africa, H. Garief Hendricks.

The Deputy Minister was warmly welcomed at the Embassy by the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to South Africa,  Mohamed Sheikh Isxaaq. During the meeting, the two officials discussed key issues aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Somalia and South Africa, as well as promoting cooperation on shared interests. Both parties agreed to work collaboratively and effectively to advance the mutual priorities of their respective governments.

The discussion also addressed challenges faced by the Somali community living in South Africa, including matters related to security, business, and new legislation recently enacted by the South African Cabinet (the “white paper”), as well as the protection of life and property. Both officials agreed on the importance of addressing the community’s concerns in the most practical and effective manner.

Deputy Minister H. Garief Hendricks highlighted that the Somali community in South Africa has integrated well into the local way of life and actively contributes to business and social development alongside other communities.

In conclusion, Ambassador Mohamed Sheikh Isxaaq expressed his appreciation to the Deputy Minister for the courtesy visit and reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to fostering stronger ties and supporting the Somali diaspora in South Africa.
