The Government of Turkey is set to train and equip new Somali security forces as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Somalia’s national security, according to multiple sources. The newly trained forces will include land, naval, and air units aimed at enhancing the country’s overall security capabilities.

The Turkish government has also extended the mandate of its forces currently stationed in Somalia, who are contributing to national security and capacity-building efforts. These forces are supported by Turkish military instructors who have played a significant role in training the Somali National Armed Forces.

Somalia and Turkey maintain a strong military cooperation framework that covers security operations, strengthening security institutions, training new forces, and other defense-related areas under existing bilateral agreements.

Turkey has previously trained Somali commando units and specialized police forces, as well as a limited number of Somali pilots qualified to operate modern aircraft. Plans are reportedly underway to expand this training program to include additional air force personnel.

Officials from Mogadishu and Ankara are currently holding discussions on the official timeline for the deployment of the newly trained forces, the total number of personnel involved, and other technical and operational aspects related to the program.
