The Council of Ministers of the Federal Government of Somalia held its regular weekly meeting today, focusing on the country’s security situation, ongoing military operations conducted by the National Armed Forces, and the national dialogue initiative recently announced by the DanQaran Government for political stakeholders.
The meeting was chaired by the Second Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Jibriil Abdirashid Haji Abdi. During the session, the Council commended the Somali Armed Forces for their dedication and sacrifices in defending the nation and protecting civilians.
Ministers specifically praised the Somali National Army for their successful operation in the Kudhaa area of Lower Juba, where government forces repelled an attack by Al-Shabaab militants. The Council noted that the militants had attempted to harm civilians in the area, but were decisively defeated by the armed forces, preventing what officials described as a deadly assault on local communities.
In addition to security matters, the Council approved several important policy and cooperation frameworks. Among them was a Memorandum of Understanding between Port State Control (PSC) administrations of the Indian Ocean region, presented by the Ministry of Ports and Maritime Transport. The agreement is aimed at strengthening regional maritime cooperation, enhancing safety standards, and improving regulatory compliance.
The Cabinet also endorsed the Somali Postal Policy for the period 2025–2030, prepared by the Ministry of Communications and Technology, which is intended to modernize and strengthen postal services nationwide.
Furthermore, ministers were briefed on the Integrated Performance Management Policy for government institutions, as well as preparations for the National Political Consultative Conference announced by the DanQaran Government. The Council emphasized the importance of coordination, transparency, and inclusive dialogue in advancing governance reforms and national stability.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to improving security, strengthening state institutions, and fostering political consensus as part of broader efforts to achieve lasting peace and development across Somalia.
