The Federal Government of Somalia is fully committed to eradicating terrorism from its soil, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has said.
Speaking when he met with a section of community members in Kismayo town on Monday evening, the Prime Minister exuded confidence that the ongoing counter-terrorism efforts to oust the Al-Qaeda affiliate group have borne fruit and restored the elusive peace.
He said that his administration is indebted to stabilizing the country and kick-starting economic development and prosperity.
“The Government is indeed fully committed to stabilising the country in order to re-direct our efforts towards economic development and nation-building,” said Hamza.
The Premier highlighted that the second phase of the military operation to liberate the remaining towns across the country will commence, and urged the community members to play a significant role in the offensive.
Barre also outlined that the government is now endeavouring and focusing its attention on realising debt relief and lifting the decades-long arms embargo, which is expected to be done in the coming month.
On their part, the community members commended the government’s efforts to stabilize the country, the extermination of Al-Shabab, and the current relief efforts to help families ravaged by the El Nino-induced floods.
