The Somalia National Disaster Management Agency (SODMA) has on Sunday disbursed assorted relief food to thousands of families in Middle Shabelle villages that have been severely impacted by the ongoing floods.
SODMA officials delivered the relief supplies to 2150 families who were in dire need of humanitarian aid in Bal’ad district.
District officials led by Commissioner Kasim Ali Noor were in hand to receive the aid from the Disaster Management Agency.
Residents who benefited from the essential supplies expressed gratitude to the Somali government for its timely aid that would go a long way in alleviating their suffering.
The agency has in recent weeks stepped up relief efforts for the ongoing floods caused by the torrential rains in a bid to mitigate the impacts of the floods.
Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, who is on an inspection tour in Kismayo Jubbaland State, on Sunday about the unfolding humanitarian situation on the ground and called on aid agencies and international donors to help mitigate the current crisis caused by the El-Nino weather phenomenon.
The number of people who have died as a result of the devastating floods has continued to climb.
According to the National Disaster Management Agency, 96 people have lost their lives as a result of the raging flooding across the country.
