Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has announced the completion of the long-running review process of the Provisional Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia, describing it as a historic step toward strengthening the country’s governance system.

Speaking about the milestone, the prime minister said the constitutional review process officially concluded, bringing an end to what he described as one of the longest and most expensive constitutional processes in the country’s history. He noted that the constitution had remained in a provisional phase for many years, requiring extensive discussions, negotiations, and revisions before reaching this stage.

Prime Minister Hamza emphasized that the work was completed through domestic efforts led by Somali institutions and stakeholders. He highlighted that the process was carried out without external directives or foreign financial support, underscoring what he described as Somalia’s growing political maturity and ability to manage its own constitutional affairs.

The completion of the constitutional review comes as the federal government continues broader efforts to strengthen state institutions, clarify the country’s political and legal structure, and advance the state-building process.

Officials say finalizing the constitutional review is expected to help consolidate governance, strengthen the rule of law, and provide a clearer framework for the country’s political system as Somalia continues its transition toward stable and democratic governance.
