The President of Jubaland State, Ahmed Mohamed Islam, widely known as Ahmed Madobe, has formally invited members of both houses of Somalia’s Federal Parliament representing Jubaland to attend a high-level consultative meeting scheduled to take place in Kismayo.
According to an official letter issued by the Office of the Jubaland President and dated March 1, 2026, the meeting will focus on Somalia’s current political situation, with particular emphasis on the anticipated 2026 electoral process. The discussions are expected to address growing concerns surrounding electoral arrangements and the broader political trajectory of the country.
The call for consultations comes amid heightened political uncertainty and disagreements over the structure and management of upcoming elections. Political stakeholders have expressed concerns over the possibility of parallel political processes or competing administrative frameworks emerging if consensus is not reached.
President Ahmed Madobe urged Jubaland lawmakers to actively participate in efforts aimed at strengthening coordination, cooperation, and unity of positions. He emphasized the importance of aligning views on national political priorities, safeguarding constitutional processes, and advancing the development and political interests of Jubaland State.
Officials familiar with the preparations said the meeting is expected to play a key role in harmonizing the positions of Jubaland’s political representatives, with the aim of producing a unified stance ahead of the next phase of Somalia’s political process.
The consultative forum is also expected to assess recent political developments following stalled negotiations in Mogadishu and rising tensions between the Federal Government and several federal member states.
The meeting will be held in Kismayo, the administrative capital of Lower Juba region, and is seen as part of broader efforts by Jubaland leadership to consolidate political consensus during a critical period for Somalia’s governance and electoral transition.
