Mohamed Cawale, Director of the Aviation Department at the Ministry of Transport and Aviation of Jubaland, led a delegation including engineers from the World Food Programme (WFP) on an official working visit to Afmadow district in Lower Jubba region.

The delegation received a warm welcome at the district headquarters from local administration officials and representatives from various levels of the regional government. During the visit, the district administration, accompanied by the delegation and WFP engineers, conducted inspections of key access routes to the Lake Dheeraa area. These routes have long posed challenges for transportation, trade, and civilian mobility due to persistent rain damage and long term neglect, which has disrupted connectivity between the airport and the town.

The primary objective of the visit was to carry out a technical assessment for the rehabilitation and upgrading of these critical roads, which serve as the main arteries linking Afmadow town and its airport. The project is expected to play a vital role in accelerating economic activity, facilitating community services, and improving security along these transport corridors.

The Afmadow District Commissioner commended the delegation for their visit and the efforts to evaluate local needs. He specifically requested that priority be given to improving access roads to Afmadow Airport, as plans are underway to develop the airport into a modern facility capable of accommodating growing air traffic and supporting broader regional development.
