The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia convened a Social Protection Coordination Meeting in Mogadishu aimed at strengthening collaboration between the Federal Government, Federal Member States, and development partners to accelerate social protection programs.

The meeting was officially opened by the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Salim Aliyow Ibroow, who underscored the importance of coordinating social protection efforts to effectively reach vulnerable Somali communities.

Also in attendance was the Deputy Minister, Aamina Hussein Ali, who highlighted the Ministry’s leadership role in advancing and coordinating national social protection initiatives.

During the session, participants reviewed progress and lessons learned from key programs including Child Sensitive Social Protection (CSSP), Baxnaano, SAGAL Project, the Unified Social Registry (USR), and the Social Protection Development Strategy (SPDS).

Discussions focused particularly on strengthening Shock Responsive Social Protection mechanisms and enhancing coordination and data-sharing among stakeholders.

The meeting forms part of the Ministry’s broader efforts to establish a sustainable and inclusive social protection system capable of supporting vulnerable populations across Somalia.
