The Minister of Commerce and Industry of the Federal Government of Somalia, Jamal Mohamed Hassan, held talks in Addis Ababa with Claver Gatete, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Africa and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in trade, investment promotion, and Somalia’s broader economic development agenda.

Minister Jamal underscored the importance of accelerating technical assistance and investment support aimed at boosting domestic production, facilitating trade, and advancing the country’s industrial development.

Both sides discussed avenues for enhanced collaboration to support Somalia’s economic reform efforts and regional integration, particularly in leveraging continental trade opportunities and building resilient economic institutions.

The engagement comes as Somalia intensifies efforts to stimulate private sector growth and attract strategic partnerships to drive sustainable development.
