The National Communications Authority of Somalia (NCA) and the Information and Communication Technologies Authority of the Republic of Türkiye (BTK) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation in electronic communications.
The agreement focuses on enhancing collaboration in key areas of mutual interest, including satellite communications regulation, cybersecurity, spectrum management, broadband infrastructure development, network security and resilience, telecommunications services, internet regulation, and other regulatory frameworks related to electronic communications.
The MoU was signed at the headquarters of BTK in Ankara by the Director General of Somalia’s National Communications Authority, Mr. Mustafa Yaasin Sheikh, and the President of Türkiye’s Information and Communication Technologies Authority, Mr. Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Karagözoğlu stated that the partnership would promote knowledge exchange and regulatory expertise, contributing to the long-term development of the telecommunications sectors in both Türkiye and Somalia. He emphasized that the agreement reflects a shared commitment to building resilient, secure, and future-ready communications systems.
Mr. Mustafa Yaasin Sheikh highlighted the importance of the MoU in strengthening institutional cooperation between the two authorities. He noted that the agreement will support capacity building for staff, facilitate knowledge sharing, and help develop effective regulatory frameworks that will contribute to the modernization and growth of Somalia’s telecommunications sector.
Following the signing, the Director General and his delegation held a series of meetings with BTK officials and other affiliated institutions. These engagements included technical discussions, workshops, and experience-sharing sessions focused on regulatory best practices, cybersecurity, consumer protection, and internet governance.
The agreement marks another step forward in strengthening bilateral relations between Somalia and Türkiye, particularly in advancing digital transformation, regulatory excellence, and secure communications infrastructure.
