Somalia’s Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Salim Caliyow Ibrow, held a key meeting on Tuesday with the leadership of the Federation of Somali Trade Unions (FESTU), led by Secretary-General Omar Faruuq Osman, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Mogadishu.

The discussion focused on strengthening social dialogue between the government, workers, and employers, accelerating the implementation of labour policies and laws, and rolling out the International Labour Organization’s Decent Work Programme.

During the meeting, both sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the government and trade unions, protect workers’ rights, and promote a fair, safe, and stable work environment to ensure sustainable development and quality jobs.

The meeting reflected the Ministry’s commitment to deepening social dialogue and collaboration with relevant institutions to achieve national goals related to job creation, skills development, and safeguarding workers’ rights.
