Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed and the President of the Somali Regional State, Mustafa Mohammed Cagjar, today jointly inaugurated a major economic development project implemented on the outskirts of Jigjiga city, specifically in the Shabelle area.

The newly launched project, which required significant financial investment, comprises tourism facilities and other sites open for private investment. Officials indicated that the majority of the project’s funding was provided by the Ethiopian federal government, reflecting its commitment to accelerating economic development and investment in the Somali Regional State.

The project is designed to create new opportunities for domestic and foreign investors, promote tourism, and stimulate local economic growth. By providing dedicated spaces for investment and leisure activities, the initiative is expected to generate employment opportunities, enhance service delivery, and contribute to sustainable development in the region.

A number of senior officials and invited guests attended the inauguration ceremony, although the names, official positions, and countries of origin of the visiting delegations were not formally disclosed. Their presence, however, underscored the significance of the project and the growing attention being given to development efforts in the Somali Regional State.

The administration of President Mustafa Mohammed Cagjar stated that it has placed strong emphasis on implementing impactful development projects that directly benefit local communities. According to regional authorities, expanding investment opportunities and improving infrastructure are central to their strategy for fostering economic resilience and improving livelihoods across the region.
