The Minister of Internal Security of Somalia, General Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag), today officially opened a high-level meeting aimed at advancing Phase II of the Joint Police Programme (JPP II), with a focus on reviewing the 2026 Work Plan and Budget to strengthen the programme’s implementation.

The meeting was attended by Ministers of Security from the Federal Member States, senior police officers, and representatives from UNDP, UNTMIS, UN Women, IOM, AUSSOM, the European Union, and the United Kingdom.

Discussions centered on the progress made in implementing JPP II, coordination between federal and state-level institutions, lessons learned from previous phases, and measures to accelerate the delivery of community-oriented security services.

The 2026 Annual Work Plan and Budget for JPP II were formally approved, reaffirming the programme’s role in building a professional, efficient, accountable, and community-focused Somali Police Force.

Minister Fartaag thanked donors and partners for their continued support, underscoring the importance of the programme in strengthening Somalia’s security institutions and improving public safety nationwide.
