The Somali National Army, operating in coordination with local defense forces, has successfully repelled a planned attack by the militant group Al-Shabaab on the Wargaadhi area in central Somalia, underscoring the government’s continued efforts to stabilize the Middle Shabelle region.
According to security officials, the attack was carefully organized but was intercepted before the militants could achieve their objectives. Somali forces acted swiftly after receiving advance intelligence indicating unusual movements by Al-Shabaab fighters toward the area. This allowed troops to establish defensive positions and confront the attackers at an early stage.
During the operation, the commander leading the Al-Shabaab assault was killed, a development authorities described as a serious setback for the group’s operational leadership.
