Forces from Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), in coordination with international partners, have carried out planned, heavy operations in the Guulane area of the Middle Shabelle region, killing more than 33 members of Al-Shabaab, according to a statement released by the NISA command.

The first operation targeted a house where Al-Shabaab leaders and militiamen were stationed. At least 15 members were killed in the strike. The militants’ base was also destroyed, which they had been using to organize militias and plan acts of destabilization.

In subsequent operations targeting militiamen hiding in the same Guulane area, more than 18 additional members were neutralized. Furthermore, security forces burned a technical vehicle (a modified pickup truck) that the group had been using for logistics and moving militiamen.

These operations came after national intelligence confirmed that approximately 90 militiamen had been assembled in the area, with plans to carry out security disruptions. The strikes have significantly weakened Al-Shabaab’s organization and planning.

Security officials stated that these operations are part of ongoing efforts to eradicate Al-Shabaab and ensure the country’s general security.
