Dadaab, Garissa County – At least two General Service Unit (GSU) officers lost their lives and four others sustained serious injuries in a devastating remote-controlled bomb attack.

The targeted strike occurred along the Dadaab-Garissa Road, specifically at Ege Dam, while the officers were en route to provide security during the ongoing national exams. The vehicle they were traveling in bore the brunt of the explosion, resulting in damage. The wounded officers were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention and subsequent admission.

Law enforcement agencies had anticipated the attack due to prior sightings of Al-shabaab group in the area.

Despite conducting a thorough search of the surroundings, authorities were unable to apprehend the perpetrators. Over the weekend, a joint effort by multi-agency teams dismantled an Al-Shabaab logistics base in Dahun, located in Fafi, Garissa County. The operation yielded the recovery of various essential supplies, including rice, sugar, and water.

Upon discovering the cache of foodstuffs, the security forces promptly destroyed the items and intensified their pursuit of the militant group who had been utilizing the base.

By the time the team arrived at the location, the militants had managed to escape. This recent recovery adds to the growing list of similar discoveries made in the same area within a span of two weeks.

Authorities have identified the region as a strategic logistics hub for the group, serving as a staging ground for launching attacks on various targets before retreating to the safety of the base. Just weeks ago, on October 17, a police ambush in Fafi, Garissa County resulted in the elimination of three Al-Shabaab militants. During the operation, security forces seized a quantity of food supplies, water, and even a collapsible tank.

The militants were transporting the provisions on donkey carts to a newly established makeshift location when they were met with the ambush.

While the security team killing three militants, others managed to flee the scene, sustaining severe injuries in the process.
