Hassan Dhicisow, Hirshabelle Police Commissioner, dismissed Beledweyne Police Commander Ahmed Ali Adan with vehement opposition, setting the stage for power play in the regional state.
Ahmed Ali Adan argues that the Hirshabelle Police Commander lacks the authority to remove him from his position as a federal employee.
“I am a federal police officer and arrived here based on a federal appointment. Hirshabelle does not possess the authority to revoke my duties; it lacks legal grounds. Furthermore, I have not received any communication from the Somali Police Commander appointing a new officer,” he stated.
Hassan Dhicisow, the Commissioner of Police of Hirshabelle, appointed Abdullahi Mohamud Siyad to the job. Local officials, however, emphasized that the federal Police Commissioner is responsible for the firing and appointment of Beledweyne’s Police Chiefs.
Last June, Hirshabelle State President Ali Guudlaawe ousted the governor of the Hiiraan area, Ali Jeyte, in an unexpected decision that prompted concerns about the viability of the territory’s anti-al-Shabab military campaign.
Mr Jeyte objected to his departure, and the locals allegedly elected him as President of Hiiraan State, and he barred authorities from Hirshabelle.
Somalia is battling with several security challenges including political rivalry both at the national and state level, but President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has insisted his commitment to restore order and sanity.
Somalia has been unstable for the last three decades, following the ouster of military leader Siad Barre.
