Suspected Kenyan fighter jets have conducted an immense airstrike in southern Somalia, targeting bases belonging to the Al Shabaab militants late on Wednesday night.
According to local residents, the Kenyan warplanes carried out the air raids on a militant training camp War-dhobley area located some 45Km west of Bu’alle district in the southern middle Jubba region.
The residents, Â who spoke to Radio Dalsan over the phone on condition of anonymity said how fighters and commanders were in presence at the camp during the air assault.
Some villagers in the area said Al shabaab had lost several fighters, along with middle-level commanders in the aerial bombing on its base in War-Dhobley settlement by the Kenyan air force jets.
Al shabaab, however has not commented on the airstrike and the reported casualties as a result of the airstrike, which was the latest in string of raids on the rebel-held areas in southern Somalia.
KDF crossed into neighbouring Somalia in mid Oct, 2011 after several attacks, and kidnappings inside Kenya that it blamed on Al Shabaab, and later 2012 joined the peacekeeping force, AMISOM.
Al Shabaab had lost control of major towns, including Mogadishu in the years-long push Somali National Army (SNA) backed by AU troops, comprising of soldiers from Uganda, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Burundi.
