The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has arrested two soldiers of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) in Mogadishu on Monday for the illegal sale of military equipment and fuel.
According to sources who spoke to Radio Dalsan in an interview, the two soldiers were arrested and their car detained by the Somali intelligence and security agency in Mogadishu, and they were taken to NISA headquarters in Banadir region.
Intelligence officials said they have been investigating the matter for some time following discovery of military equipment belonging to AMISOM among locals.
There has been no comment from the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) regarding this new case facing their soldiers.
In June, five soldiers of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) were arrested in Mogadishu for alleged involvement in illegal sale of military supplies, AMISOM officials confirmed.
The African Union Mission in Somalia, created in 2007, has over 22,000 peacekeepers helping to restore peace and stability in Somalia.
Troop contributing countries include Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda.
