Two aid workers for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) were on Wednesday night kidnapped by unknown people in the Somali capital Mogadishu.
One of the aid workers has been identified as Sonja Nielsen a female German nurse while the second one is a male Somali national.
They were kidnapped from their  place of accommodation near the Shamo Hotel in Wadajir district.
According to police radio calls the local aid worker managed to escape from the kidnappers vehicle after a tire burst.
Ms Nielsen  was having her meal at the ICRC compound when she was accosted by her kidnappers.
An Australian and Kenyan staff were present at the compound when the kidnapping occurred.
Police are on high alert following the kidnapping and have arrested the private guards manning the  compound.
