Key Somali political figures, including former national leaders and Puntland President Said Deni, arrived in Kismayo, Lower Jubba, today ahead of the Somali Future Council Conference, a high-profile political gathering set to discuss the country’s transitional arrangements and the council’s organizational framework.
The conference, organized by opposition leaders, has been critical of the current federal government, reflecting growing tensions over the handling of national political processes and upcoming elections. Delegates from Mogadishu, Garowe, and Nairobi have been traveling to Kismayo to join the discussions.
Security across the city has been significantly tightened, with troops deployed along main roads to safeguard participants and maintain order during the meetings.
