Somalia’s Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) Chairperson, Abdikariin Ahmed Hasan, has pledged to oversee what he called the most transparent and credible election in the country’s history.

Speaking in Mogadishu, Abdikariin emphasized that the IEC is the central authority for all electoral matters and urged political actors, media, and citizens to engage through official channels to ensure accuracy and accountability.

“We want to conduct Somalia’s most transparent and credible election ever. Our processes will be open, accountable, and designed to reflect the will of the people,” he said.

The IEC chief’s comments come amid growing public and political interest in upcoming national elections. Somalia has historically faced challenges with election delays, disputes, and questions over credibility, prompting reforms aimed at strengthening oversight and transparency.

Abdikariin’s pledge signals a proactive effort to build trust in Somalia’s electoral institutions. Analysts note that a successful election under these standards could mark a turning point in the country’s democratic development and boost citizen confidence in governance.
