The President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), on Monday received the British Ambassador to Somalia, Charles King, along with a high-level delegation that accompanied him on an official visit aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two sides.

The Ambassador was joined by senior officials from the UK Office in Somaliland, while President Irro was flanked by key ministers and top government officials from his administration. The meeting, held at the Presidential Palace, underscored the importance of the historical partnership between Somaliland and the United Kingdom.

President Irro warmly welcomed Ambassador King and expressed gratitude for the long-standing relationship based on mutual respect, trust, and shared strategic interests. He acknowledged the UK’s continued support in areas such as security, governance, and infrastructure development, sectors crucial to Somaliland’s stability and growth.

The President emphasized that his government is committed to advancing cooperation between the two sides, noting that the United Kingdom remains a close ally that consistently supports Somaliland’s progress, peace, and socio-economic development.

Ambassador Charles King reaffirmed the UK’s strong appreciation for Somaliland’s stability, democratic governance, and peaceful political processes. He commended the government for maintaining security, promoting democratic elections, and advancing peace initiatives — particularly the ongoing efforts to stabilize the Eastern Regions.

He also praised Somaliland for facilitating peaceful dialogue in Erigaabo, describing it as a critical step toward long-term regional harmony.

During the meeting, the Ambassador highlighted the importance of promoting private-sector investment as a driver of economic growth and job creation. He stressed that the UK will continue supporting development programs and engaging in areas that enhance Somaliland’s resilience and prosperity.

The discussions concluded with a mutual commitment to deepen collaboration in governance, economic partnerships, peacebuilding, and security coordination. Both sides agreed to maintain regular engagement to further solidify the cooperation between Somaliland and the United Kingdom.
