The Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur (Madoobe), arrived on Thursday in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, leading a high-level delegation.
Upon their arrival, they were warmly received by Somalia’s Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Fardowsa Mohamed Qanyare, along with senior diplomats from the Somali embassy in Uganda, highlighting the importance of Somalia’s representation at the regional parliamentary gathering.
During his visit, Speaker Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur (Madoobe) is scheduled to take part in the meeting of parliamentary speakers of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), a key body under the East African Community (EAC).
The meeting, which is set to begin on November 15 and conclude on November 17, provides a critical platform for the speakers of member state parliaments to discuss strategies for regional economic integration, legislative collaboration, and policy harmonization across East Africa.
The agenda of the meeting will include deliberations on strengthening the role of national parliaments in supporting EALA’s legislative agenda, enhancing cooperation among member states, and promoting good governance, accountability, and socio-economic development throughout the East African region. Somalia’s active participation reflects the country’s commitment to regional integration and its dedication to advancing the objectives of the East African Community.
During his stay in Kampala, Speaker Madoobe will engage in bilateral discussions with fellow parliamentary leaders, exchange insights on best practices for legislative governance, and explore avenues for enhanced collaboration that can benefit both Somalia and the wider East African region. The visit also presents an opportunity to strengthen Somalia’s diplomatic relations with Uganda and other member states represented at the assembly.
The arrival of Somalia’s parliamentary delegation underscores the government’s emphasis on regional cooperation and parliamentary diplomacy as essential tools for promoting peace, stability, and sustainable economic growth. By participating in such high-level regional forums, Somalia continues to reinforce its commitment to playing an active and constructive role in the East African Community, supporting initiatives that enhance the well-being of its citizens and foster regional solidarity.
Speaker Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur (Madoobe) and his delegation are expected to return to Mogadishu following the conclusion of the EALA meeting on November 17, bringing back insights and agreements that will further inform Somalia’s legislative and diplomatic engagement within the region.
