A convoy escorting the outgoing Deputy Chief of the Somalia National Army Gen Abdullahi Ali Anod was on Friday ambushed by Al-Shabab militants between K-60 and Shalambod.
A security source told Radio Dalsan that a roadside bomb targeting the convoy exploded.
An exchange of fire between the militants and government soldiers ensued.
At least 3 sold are reported to have been injured in the attack.
Gen Abdullahi Ali Aanood was on Thursday replaced by post by Gen Odawaa Yusuf Rageh in changes made by President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.
