Eritrea is set to restablish diplomatic ties with Somalia by reopening it’s embassy in Mogadishu, Somalia government said on Sunday.
“H.E @M_Farmaajo’s visit would pave the way for Somalia’s full diplomatic presence in Asmara, to promote bilateral ties and strengthen multilateral and economic cooperation. Eritrea would equally have a diplomatic mission in Mogadishu” Villa Somalia stated.
Somalia President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo is on the second day of his visit to the Red Sea country.
“The president is keen on regional cooperation and is leading efforts to ensure Somalia is at the forefront towards stronger regional integration to foster trade and usher in a new phase of prosperity for all” the Villa Somalia stated.
Farmaajo arrived in the Eritrean capital Asmara on Saturday with a delegation comprising four ministers.
The streets of Asmara were decorated by Somalia flags as hudreds came out to welcome the Somali president.
Eritrea which until recent was politically isolated by its Horn of Africa neighbours had beem accused in a UN report of funding Somalia militant group Alshabaab a claim it had denied.
Asmara’s recent end of state of war with neighbouring Ethiopia, an ally of Somalia, has seen it reinstate diplomatic relations with other countries.
