The US Constitution, specifically Article 22, states that no one can be elected to the presidency more than twice. This limit was approved in 1951, after Franklin D. Roosevelt became the first president to win more than two terms.
Trump, who first became president in 2017, won re-election in 2024, and his second term is expected to end in January 2029.
Although Trump has repeatedly raised the idea of running for a third term, his latest remarks have drawn widespread attention, as he acknowledged that current law would prevent such a plan.
