The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has reaffirmed its close monitoring of developments in the Horn of Africa, particularly statements concerning unilateral recognition of Somaliland. IGAD emphasized that the Federal Republic of Somalia remains a full member of the organization and is recognized internationally as a sovereign state with territorial integrity fully respected under international law.

IGAD stated that any unilateral recognition would directly contravene the United Nations Charter, the African Union Charter, and the IGAD Establishment Agreement. The regional body called on international partners and stakeholders to uphold international law and to support peaceful dialogue and processes that strengthen regional peace, stability, and cooperation.

The organization reiterated its unwavering support for the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Somalia, emphasizing its commitment to inclusive political processes and regional cooperation that promote sustainable peace, stability, and shared prosperity in Somalia and across IGAD member states.
