The Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) has announced that flights at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu will be suspended on Thursday, 25 December 2025, due to the upcoming local elections in Banadir Region.
A notice from the authority informed airlines, airport staff, and passengers that the airport will be closed on that day.
“According to the attached advisory, the Somali public, travel agencies, and airline companies are hereby notified that on Thursday, 25 December 2025, Aden Adde Airport will be closed due to the local elections,” the statement read.
The closure coincides with a city-wide lockdown in Mogadishu on 25 December, which will restrict movement of vehicles, aircraft, and people, except for those holding voter cards to participate in the elections.
The Independent Electoral Commission, together with federal security agencies, has been coordinating to strengthen security, facilitate voting, and ensure safe movement of citizens exercising their right to vote in the Banadir Regional Council elections.
