The Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Salah Ahmed Jama, attended the high-level African Union (AU) and European Union (EU) Summit, which opened today in the Angolan capital, Luanda.
The summit focused on strengthening cooperation between Africa and Europe, with Somalia presenting its recent achievements in peacebuilding, security, governance, and financial sector reform.
During his speech, Deputy Prime Minister Jama emphasized that Somalia remains committed to strengthening government institutions, reforming the security sector, and combating extremist groups. He highlighted the important role that both the African Union and the European Union play in supporting Somalia’s peace and stabilization efforts.
He also noted that Somalia has achieved several historic milestones, including its exit from the Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) initiative and joining the East African Community (EAC). These achievements, he said, have opened new opportunities for trade, investment, and regional cooperation.
Deputy Prime Minister Jama concluded by urging African and European partners to further strengthen cooperation based on trust, joint responsibility, and shared commitment, aiming to build a prosperous, stable, and equitable future for all.
The AU-EU summit brings together leaders from across Africa and Europe to discuss shared priorities, including economic growth, security, climate change, and sustainable development. Somalia’s participation underscores its commitment to regional integration and collaboration with international partners to achieve peace and development.
