Since July 29, 2025, a Somali‐organised kitchen in Gaza has been providing hot meals daily to displaced Palestinian families.

The project, named “Somali Kitchen in Gaza,” is funded with over $250,000 raised by Somalis living in Somalia and in the diaspora.

Organisers report spending approximately $5,000 per day to feed between 500 and 800 families in Gaza, using locally bought food and working through Palestinian partners on the ground.

Leadership comes from the Somali Action Network, based in Mogadishu, but the operation itself is carried out inside Gaza.

The campaign has also raised funds through grassroots efforts not just in Somalia but also among Somalis in Kenya and elsewhere.

On the ground in Gaza, organisers say the donations have built 100 food tents, provided hot meals to orphans, and fed about 800 families within the 50-day period.

Despite challenges including blockade conditions and high food prices, Somali communities say they see this as essential solidarity.
