Protesters Clash With ICE Outside Chicago Facility, Multiple Arrests Made
Protester learns costly lesson after attempting to block ICE facility entrance.
BROADVIEW, Illinois – A confrontation between demonstrators and law enforcement outside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in suburban Chicago escalated on September 26, 2025, resulting in multiple arrests and injuries. The protest unfolded at the Broadview facility as officers used crowd-control measures including tear gas and sting ball grenades to disperse demonstrators who had blocked the entrance.
Protesters had gathered to oppose immigration enforcement operations, with some physically attempting to prevent ICE vehicles from entering the facility. The demonstration quickly turned volatile when officers in riot gear deployed canisters of tear gas to push back the crowd. Illinois State Police later declared an unlawful assembly, leading to additional detentions.

“One protester appeared to believe she could act with impunity, blocking the entrance without consequence,” a law enforcement source told reporters. Officers ultimately deployed sting ball grenades—non-lethal munitions that release rubber pellets—to clear the blockade, striking several demonstrators.
Emergency personnel treated multiple individuals at the scene for tear gas inhalation. Photographs from the site showed one protester being helped away after inhaling tear gas, while others continued throwing canisters back at officers.

The Broadview facility has become a flashpoint in the ongoing national debate over immigration enforcement. Saturday’s clash followed similar confrontations reported in previous weeks, with officers forming barricaded perimeters to maintain access to the facility.
Police confirmed several arrests were made during the confrontation, though exact numbers were not immediately released. The scene underscores the heightened tensions surrounding ICE operations in Chicago and reflects broader national divisions over immigration policy.
