A roadside bomb, reportedly a landmine planted along the route, targeted a convoy escorting the President of Hirshabelle State, Ali Abdullahi Hussein (Ali Guudlaawe) on Sunday as he returned to Jowhar, the state capital.
According to multiple security sources, the explosion struck one of the vehicles accompanying President Guudlaawe’s convoy, resulting in injuries to two members of his security detail. The president himself was not harmed in the incident.
The blast occurred on the road connecting Jowhar Airport to the city center, a key route frequently used by senior officials. Following the explosion, security forces launched an operation in the area, though no official results have yet been announced.
President Guudlaawe and his delegation had spent the past several days in Mogadishu and were returning to Jowhar to resume official duties and focus on priority state matters.
Jowhar Airport is located approximately 15 kilometers outside the city, and the route has previously been targeted by similar landmine attacks. In response to past incidents, Hirshabelle security forces, in coordination with AUSSOM troops, have repeatedly conducted mine-clearance and security operations along the road.
