Two hundred women have received funding to start small businesses as part of a program aimed at promoting economic self-reliance and improving family livelihoods. The beneficiaries were selected from among displaced women, struggling mothers, and women facing difficult living conditions.
The initiative, which targets the empowerment of women and the growth of small enterprises, has been implemented in several areas, including Luglow, Halgan, Istanbul, and neighborhoods across Kismayo.
The program focuses on meeting the urgent livelihood needs of women, providing them with business skills, training, and resources to help them sustain and grow their enterprises.
This initiative is a joint effort by the Kismayo municipal administration, the Ministry of Women, the Ministry of Commerce, the Jubbaland Displacement Agency, and is directly implemented by the Somali Women’s Study Center (SWCS), with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Officials coordinating the project described it as a beacon of hope, giving hundreds of women who previously struggled with limited opportunities a chance to improve their economic independence and the wellbeing of their families.
