Commissioner Mahmoud noted that conditions in some areas are extremely dire, particularly with regard to access to clean drinking water, a situation that has increased health risks and triggered displacement of affected communities.

He called on the government, civil society organizations, the business community, and the international community to urgently mobilize collective support to save lives affected by drought and water scarcity, and to strengthen ongoing humanitarian response efforts.
