On Sunday, the President of Jubaland, Ahmed Mohamed Islam, held a key meeting in Kismayo with the UN Special Representative for Somalia, James Swan, and the EU Ambassador to Somalia, Francesca Di Mauro.
The discussions focused on Somalia’s complex political situation, particularly the challenges facing the state-building process and ways to strengthen cooperation between federal institutions, federal member states, and international partners.
President Islam shared Jubaland’s perspective on resolving political disputes, emphasizing the importance of dialogue, compromise, and the need to accelerate a unified process based on national consensus.
Ambassador Swan and Ambassador Di Mauro reaffirmed the continuous support of the UN and the EU for peace, stability, and institutional reconstruction in Somalia. They encouraged all political actors to demonstrate flexibility and responsibility in pursuing constructive solutions.
The meeting also addressed the upcoming conference in Kismayo, described as a critical opportunity to bring political actors closer together and establish mechanisms to address ongoing challenges, aiming to secure a stable political future for Somalia.
