Tension remains high in Beladhawo, Gedo Region, after a string of attacks carried out by armed assailants left five people dead between last night and early this morning, according to residents who spoke to local media.
Community sources confirmed that among those killed were two brothers who were together at the time of the attack. Witnesses say an armed group approached them at close range and opened fire, killing both siblings and two other individuals who were in their company.
In a separate incident this morning, another armed individual reportedly carried out a fatal shooting within the same town, further heightening fears among residents.
Security forces in Baladhawo have since launched operations to track down the perpetrators. According to preliminary reports, the killings appear to be linked to long-standing clan revenge disputes that have previously caused instability in the district.
Baladhawo and several areas in southern and central Somalia have in recent months recorded an increase in clan-related violence, with armed groups—organized along lineage lines—targeting civilians, including men, women and children. Local elders have repeatedly warned that such cycles of retaliation are deepening insecurity and tearing apart families, in some cases even leading to the killing of close relatives.
Security officials say operations will continue until those involved in the latest attacks are arrested and held accountable.
