Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Wednesday officially opened the 6th Somali Youth Leadership and Innovation Forum in Mogadishu, underscoring the vital role of young people in shaping Somalia’s future and strengthening national development.
Speaking during the opening ceremony, the Prime Minister said his administration is committed to empowering Somali youth, whom he described as the “backbone of the nation” and central to Somalia’s long-term stability and progress.
He revealed that the government is finalizing new legal frameworks aimed at reforming public sector recruitment. The reforms, he said, will ensure that government jobs are awarded through a transparent, fair, and merit-based process.
“From now on, public sector employment will be based on fairness, transparency and equal opportunity. What matters is your knowledge, your skills, and your innovation,” said PM Hamza.
The Prime Minister urged the youth to think creatively, embrace innovation, and step out of their comfort zones to contribute to nation-building. He emphasized that strong leadership requires fresh ideas, discipline, and the courage to drive change.
“To achieve progress, you must move beyond where you stand today. Leadership demands innovation. If you want to lead, you must become a positive example,” he noted.
PM Hamza further highlighted the importance of education, continuous research, and resilience as key pillars for national growth. He encouraged young people to take ownership of their future and avoid fear or hesitation.
The Prime Minister concluded by urging Somali youth to participate actively in upcoming elections and national leadership processes, stressing that the country’s future depends on their involvement and vision.
