The Prime Minister of Somalia Hamza Abdi Barre, during his ongoing working visit to Morocco, on Friday toured Tanger Med Port, the largest port in Africa and a major hub for global trade in the Mediterranean region.
Tanger Med strategically links trade between Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Americas, handling over 20% of international cargo ships, making it a key center in global economic connectivity.
During the visit, Prime Minister Barre held a productive meeting with Tanger Med Port CEO Mehdi Tazi Riffi, discussing strengthened port cooperation, trade facilitation, and the exchange of expertise in economic infrastructure development between Somalia and Morocco.
Prime Minister Hamza emphasized that this visit and engagement are part of Somalia’s broader efforts to develop critical infrastructure that boosts economic growth and strengthens bilateral cooperation.
The visit comes as Somali ports, including Mogadishu and Berbera, have recently achieved international recognition and awards, while ongoing modernization and expansion projects aim to enhance the country’s maritime trade capacity.
