The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, officially launched the 2nd Annual Conference of the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) in Mogadishu today.
This year’s conference showcases the government’s achievements in providing free public services that are delivered efficiently, around the clock, to Somali citizens.
The event was attended by officials from federal institutions, regional governments, representatives of international organizations, and other distinguished guests.
NIRA Director General, Abdiwali Timacadde, delivered a keynote speech highlighting that the Authority has registered over one million citizens since its inception. He further stated that NIRA plans to register 15 million Somali citizens over the next three years.
The two-day conference features discussions and research aimed at enhancing the national identification system. The theme for this year’s event is: “Strengthening Foundational Infrastructure for National ID Usage.”
Officials and participants emphasized that the conference provides a platform to improve service delivery, build citizen trust, and expand the use of the National ID across Somalia, which is key to planning, governance, and access to public services.
