Bukayo Saka, who joined Arsenal’s academy at the age of seven, has grown into a key figure for the club at just 24 years old. Having played 277 matches and scored 76 goals, Saka has won the hearts of Arsenal supporters with his talent, maturity, and dedication on the field.
Saka played a significant role when Arsenal reached the Europa League final in 2019 and won the FA Cup in 2020, and he continues to be a pivotal player for both his club and the England national team. This season, he is aiming to help Arsenal compete for the Premier League title, and manager Mikel Arteta has expressed hope that Saka will sign a new long-term contract with the club.
“I know he wants to stay with us,” Arteta said, highlighting the strong bond between Saka and Arsenal. “We want to continue his journey with the team and support the talent he brings every game.”
In a candid interview with the BBC, Saka spoke about achieving his childhood dream of playing for Arsenal. He reflected on his early days, the joy football has brought him, and his ambitions for the future after his playing career ends.
When asked why he chose football, Saka said, “For me, football has always been happiness. My dream was to play football since I learned what it was.” He added that although his family encouraged him to consider other options, he never imagined a life without the sport.
Recalling his earliest football memories, Saka said he used to play at home with his brother and father, who were tough opponents. “I never accepted losing. I would cry if I failed,” he recalled.
Saka’s first team was Greenford Celtic, where he learned the fundamentals of the game and built his love for football. He also shared that he always wanted to play on the wing, particularly the left side, and that Arsenal was always the club he dreamed of joining. His father’s guidance and Arsenal’s renowned academy made the decision clear.
Reflecting on the journey from fan to professional player, Saka said, “You could call it a dream come true. I used to go to the stadium as a child to watch Arsenal, and now I play on the same pitch. It’s incredibly rewarding to reflect on that journey and see how far I’ve come.”
